Chagall, who came from Belarusian-Jewish heritage, quickly packed his bags for Palestine, hoping to find inspiration in the Holy Land. The resulting series, “The Bible,” spanned 25 years and two volumes, showing parables and figures from the Old and New Testaments in 105 etchings.
Chagall's La Bible (1932–39, 1952–56) was an enormous project that spanned more than two decades.

Marc Chagall (1887-1985) was born in Vitebsk, Belarus, and lived in France for much of his life. One of the most celebrated artists of the twentieth century, his work is included in museum collections around the world.
